  • University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Multidisciplinary Center on Aging Community Health Worker Training Program 
What is the cost of the program?
  • The cost of the program to the participant is $0. 
  • Current grant funding makes it possible to offer a monthly stipend ($300/month).
  • CU Anschutz uses grant funding to pay for all materials, the cost of the booster session (prep for the Center for Advancing Professional Excellence (CAPE) assessment) and the CAPE assessment itself for anyone who wishes to earn the CHW credential.
  • CU Anschutz hopes to continue this model in the future to support individuals who would not otherwise have the means to pay for the training in an effort to create a pathway for those who may be un- or under-employed to reenter the workforce and earn a livable wage.

  • The program runs for 8 weeks, with an orientation provided the week before.
  • Live learning sessions are held via Zoom Mondays and Thursdays 9 a.m.- 12 p.m. MST.
  • CU Anschutz has historically offered a Spring and Fall cohort (capped at 20 people per cohort).

  • CU Anschutz offers the training program virtually. 
    • The program is managed by the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Multidisciplinary Center on Aging.
Are courses offered in-person or online?
  • The courses are offered virtually (online) via Zoom. 
  • Course materials are available through Canvas, with the exception of the Mental Health First Aid course, which is managed nationally using an online learning management system called Connect.

  • The program is offered in English, though CU Anschutz does have instructors fluent in multiple languages.
  • CU Anschutz works to accommodate learners with vision and hearing limitations, different styles of learning, and different levels of digital literacy. 
  • CU Anschutz offers digital literacy instruction concurrently with the CHW training.

  • CU Anschutz uses grant funding to pay for the CAPE assessment for anyone who wishes to earn the CHW credential.

  Important note

Some of the current training program language may use the term “Health Navigator” but that will eventually change to Community Health Worker. In the interim, Health Navigator training will be accepted until all training programs change to Community Health Worker training programs.
